Cooperative Teachers Credit Union Creates Community Hub

Cooperative Teachers Credit Union (CTCU) Case Study

A best practices case study highlighting a branch expansion right in the heart of the dynamic entertainment capital of East Texas

Cooperative Teachers Credit Union (CTCU) is a teacher-based credit union located in Tyler, Texas that wanted to expand their footprint through a new satellite branch. This new location – CTCU at the Cannery – wouldn’t be a typical bank branch, but a thriving destination experience instead. In the heart of Lindale, The Cannery is known for being the new entertainment capital of East Texas – with restaurants, retail and residential right in the center of the action. Cooperative Teachers Credit Union’s branch would complement this thriving community by incorporating a shared space for the community to mix and mingle.

From the outset, Adrenaline made sure they knew our purpose, our brand, and our goals. In short order, they captured the essence of our Credit Union, and then managed to generate a design that would drive the rest of the project.”

Building a Destination

For their new satellite branch, Cooperative Teachers Credit Union wanted the branch to be home to a unique East Texas experience. Having a space that would welcome community in, the design Adrenaline created needed to seamlessly integrate banking functionality and build a space for fostering community connections – all under one roof. Through Adrenaline’s turnkey design-build process, an empty T-shaped retail space was turned into a vital connection to the entertainment options at the center of the buzzing plaza, bringing together Lindale’s past, present and future.

We are a small credit union in East Texas that for decades only had one branch. When we made the decision to open our second branch, we knew that we couldn’t get it wrong. We were ready to make a splash in a big way. We interviewed multiple companies looking to find one that could help drive our growth and chose to work with Adrenaline because they convinced us that they had the most expertise.”
– Tim Miller, President and CEO, CTCU

Connecting with Community

With a modern aesthetic and nod to its cannery past, the dynamic new branch would need to support current members and attract new ones, as well. Serving as only CTCU’s second branch in their history, this expansion into a nearby community would be a place for generations to gather, offering WiFi access and coffee to students and teachers at this college satellite adjacent location, steps away from the music and entertainment options just outside their doors.

Modern Banking Experiences

The location Adrenaline implemented – from discovery, design through construction – features a lively blend of programming and functionality inside the branch. A community center that opens to the outside and inside the space ensures the branch is a gathering spot that can be partitioned off for functions or kept open for visibility from the outside. With staff at the ready and able to move about the location freely – through private and semi-private flexible spaces – CTCU at the Cannery is a home for a modern banking experience and gathering spot for people in an environment with a cool cannery vibe.

The result of our collaboration was a state-of-the-art branch that has helped drive CTCU to the most member growth in the history of our credit union.”
